The city of Vincennes has a rich history. As the oldest city in Indiana, previously a French fur trading post, Vincennes has been at the forefront of the development of Indiana and the Midwest. Founded in 1732, in 1800 Vincennes because the capitol of the newly formed Indiana Territory. Vincennes also boast a history in architecture with many French influenced homes and buildings around the city, some dating all the way back to the early 1800s Vincennes was at the heart of many of Indiana`s firsts including site of the first Catholic church in Indiana, first county, first newspaper, first Presbyterian church, first Masonic Lodge, first bank and first medical society. Today, Vincennes offers many amenities of bigger cities but offers the community feel and spirit of a small town.
